At London Art Fair 2026, Perve Galeria presents a cross-generational exhibition that connects Lusophone and Global South artists. The gallery's curated project explores themes of memory, decolonial narratives, cultural heritage, and identity.
The presentation marks the international debut in an art fair Time For The Oniric (Micaela Guedes and Carina Prazeres, b. 1997), a Portuguese duo whose practice merges surrealist symbolism, figurative drawing, and immersive environments using murals, paintings, sculpture, animation, and recycled materials. Their works engage deeply with the subconscious and the natural world, drawing connections between historical avant-garde legacies and contemporary visual languages.
Renée Gagnon (b. 1942, Canada) presents works from her 2025 series, revisiting her photographic archive of Luanda's Musseques. By intervening on these images, she generates new narratives that explore urban resilience, memory, and post-colonial histories, emphasizing the role of women artists in documenting marginalized communities.
The exhibition also introduces José Chambel (b. 1969, São Tomé and Príncipe), who debuts his new series Post-Type: Diaspora Clichés. The series reinterprets colonial photographs from São Tomé and Príncipe, exploring the visual tropes used to depict local populations and the legacies of modern colonialism on visual representation.
Marya Al Qassimi (b. 1993, UAE) presents new works that combine surrealist expression through psychic automatism with references to Arabic and Middle Eastern culture. Her practice highlights the unconscious, connecting personal, regional, and global narratives.
Finally, João Artur da Silva (b. 1928, Portugal/UK/Canada), the last living founder of the 1940s Portuguese Surrealist Group, will present experimental photographs created in London during the 1960s and 1970s, now printed for the first time.
The exhibition at London Art Fair 2026 underscores cross-generational dialogue, gender visibility, and the decolonization of artistic discourse, reinforcing Perve Galeria's commitment to amplifying voices from historically underrepresented regions and communities.
