Frieze Masters 2026 - Spotlight

Perve Galeria is pleased to announce its participation in Frieze Masters 2026, which will take place in Regent's Park, London, from October 14th to 18th, with an individual presentation dedicated to João Artur da Silva (b. 1928, Portugal/United Kingdom/Canada) in Section Spotlight (Stand S11).

Curated by Devika Singh and Sofia Gotti, the 2026 edition of the Spotlight Section brings together presentations focused on 20th-century artistic practices. The presentation by Perve Galeria places João Artur da Silva within this international context, highlighting the breadth and experimental nature of his multidisciplinary practice.

A founding member of the Portuguese Surrealist Group of the 1940s, João Artur da Silva developed an artistic practice that encompassed painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and experimentation with the image. After leaving Portugal and settling in the United Kingdom in the late 1950s, he continued to develop a profoundly unique visual language, marked by Surrealism, abstraction, experimentation, and a continuous investigation of the possibilities of image construction.

The presentation is part of Perve Galeria's ongoing program dedicated to the research, preservation, and international dissemination of the work of João Artur da Silva, contributing to the rediscovery of an important, yet still insufficiently recognized, figure in Portuguese Surrealism and postwar artistic experimentation.
