Everything to Learn

Celebrating the25th anniversary of Perve Gallery, established in Alfama in 2000,Everything to LearnThis exhibition brings together a group of artists who, despite their importance and relevance in the Portuguese artistic and cultural landscape, remain without gallery representation. Curated byOscar FariaIn this context, her works are placed in dialogue with pieces from the gallery's collections and holdings, as well as those of the Casa da Liberdade – Mário Cesariny, creating a bridge between different generations and artistic practices.

According to the curator, this being a"Symptoms of a situation that has been intensifying in recent years, this exhibition seeks to expose the fragilities of a sector that is increasingly held hostage by agendas."[where]Names with solid track records are forgotten by a system that's always looking for the latest trend. The exhibition's name appropriates the title of a work that Mário Cesariny created in 1968, part of the Casa da Liberdade Collection, reinforcing the character of continuous learning and critical reflection that runs throughout the show.

The featured artists are between 35 and 85 years old, in an intergenerational dialogue that, in the curator's words, “Despite the consistency of their career paths, they have not received the institutional recognition they deserve: there has been a lack of mid-career exhibitions, and a lack of shows that recognize decades of work while they are still alive.Among them are artists such asFernando Brito, Vítor Silva Cravo, Ana Efe, José Miguel Gervásio, Eduardo Petersen, Nuno Henrique, Vanda Madureira, Cristiana Ortiga, Fernando José Pereira, Sebastião Resende, Thierry Simões and António de Sousa, between others.

Marking its 25th anniversary, Perve Galeria celebrates a unique, plural journey deeply committed to promoting unjustly underrepresented artistic voices, especially those from the Global South and the Lusophone world. For a quarter of a century, it has given visibility and international recognition to artists such as Reinata Sadimba, Ernesto Shikhani, Malangatana Ngwenya, Manuel Figueira, Teresa Roza d’Oliveira, and João Artur da Silva, among others, whose works are part of leading collections and institutions.

With Everything to LearnPerve Galeria continues this journey, offering visibility to institutionally undervalued artists and inviting the public to (re)discover solid trajectories. The exhibition presents itself as a gesture of recognition and a vibrant space for reflection on art, understood as a practice that endures beyond time and the ephemeral nature of taste.

On the opening day, the gallery is hosting a program of...Unreleased performances by Vanda Madureira, Thierry SimõesandMartin Wöllenstein.

The event also marks thereformulation of 27ARTe, an open-air art space, accessible 24/7, which Perve has been running since 2022, when it reclaimed a derelict space in Alfama with the support of the Santa Maria Maior Parish Council. Since then, several artists have created site-specific interventions in the space, and now it's the turn of the emerging duoTime For The Oniric, composed of Micaela Guedes and Carina Prazeres. As winners of the international open call promoted by Perve to mark its 25th anniversary, they recently completed an artistic residency with the gallery, and now present the...site-specific installationwhich they developed for 27ARTe.

On the same day, atreconfiguration of the exhibition "(O)postos Coincidentes"at the House of Liberty - Mário Cesariny,Ruca Bourbon, another winner of the open call, presents the installation for the first time."CryptoLisbon", conceived during his artistic residency. Investigating stories, myths and events of Lisbon, with special attention to the Alfama area, the artist used techniques of drifting, psychogeography and object collection to create photomontages, assemblages and sculptures. The result is a unique audiovisual and multimedia work that combines archival images, records of the artistic residency and artificial intelligence resources.
