Sarab - Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim

SarabThis marks Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim's first solo exhibition in Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula, introducing the public to one of the founding and most important figures in contemporary art in the United Arab Emirates.

This exhibition marks a particularly significant moment in the artist's international career and, simultaneously, a new programming focus for Perve Galeria, reinforcing its commitment to promoting artistic practices of high historical and contemporary relevance originating from the Global South.

Forming the first part of the triptych"And Thus He Crossed Over", developed by Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim in collaboration with curator Mo Reda and the Perve Gallery.
SarabThe Arabic word for "mirage" is used to evoke reflection on the pursuit of a desired destination, simultaneously geographical and metaphorical.
Bringing together works created between 2023 and 2025 during travels across different continents, the exhibition articulates sculpture, painting, and drawing in an investigation of memory, experience, and the relationship with the environment, affirming artistic practice as a process of sensitive inscription in the territory and poetic transformation of reality.

With a widely recognized career in the international context, Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim represented the United Arab Emirates twice at the Venice Biennale in 2009 and 2022, establishing himself as one of the central figures in the country's contemporary artistic production and an unavoidable reference in the broader context of art from the Global South.

With this exhibition, Perve Galeria reaffirms its commitment to promoting contemporary artistic practices of strong international relevance in Portugal, consolidating its role as a platform for encounter, mediation and intercultural dialogue through art.
